FEBRUARY 2008

MEMBERSHIP FORM

Having had a complaint, at the Spring Committee Meeting, that the website was publishing 2 versions of the Membership Form, I have checked the site thoroughly and can confirm that the one you see, is the correct one. £10/year only !!

If you see a form stating £7.50 then you need to refresh you screen (Press F5) immediately.

This is not the website's fault, it's your browsers 'refresh-rate' fault.

UPDATES

This latest update took 3 hours to sort out. 30 minutes to edit, and 2.5 hours trying to get it uploaded.

It would appear that I'm still not 100% up and running (unfortunately) but please bear with me.

HMS SHOULTON

It came to light, over the Mini Reunion weekend, that a photo of HMS SHOULTON recently appeared in Ton Talk, with no 40/60 mounting on her fo'c'sle. I've checked all the website photo's and there is nothing with her 'armed'.

Has anyone one out there got a pic of her with her Bofors on the pointy end ?

SPRING COMMITTEE MEETING

A record turnout was recorded for the Spring Committee Meeting at the Maritime Club in Portsmouth on 8th March 2008.

Quite a few 'First-Timers' made the journey and it was great to meet all of the new faces.

Rob HOOLE managed to get a few photo's of the Meeting, and the Dinner afterwards, and has kindly sent them to the website for displaying.

MEMBERSHIPS FEE

There are still Members who have not updated their Annual Membership fee from £7.50 to £10.00 This came into force in January 2007. If you paid your subs last year, please check that you paid £10, and not the old fee. Please send our Membership Secretary the outstanding balance of £2.50 ASAP. If it is not paid in the immediate future, you will NOT receive your full annual subscription to TON TALK.

MYSTERY SHIP COMPETITION

At last the competition has be resurrected. There is a new photo on the Mystery Ship page. All entries to be in by the last day of April

WEBSITE

At last the problems that have been plaguing the website (and my computer) are over. I must apologise to all those who've tried to access the site recently, and found it missing. The problems started back in October 2007 when our Internet Service Provider (ISP) was compromised and they had to cancel all passwords and re-issue new ones. This prevented anything from being uploaded to the site as the re-issued passwords were sent via the post rather than email. With such a large customer database this took over a month. Unfortunately my backup hard drive, with all the website software and graphics as well as all the ton photo's & emails, decided it had had enough and crashed.

After much swearing and cussing, I bought a program that would attempt to recover all the software etc, from the damaged hard drive. This took forever, but I managed to recover about 99% of everything lost (except the emails).

By now, it was decided that a new machine was needed and so January 2008 was spent re-loading all the software & photo's onto the new computer. I carried out a test run and all appeared to be working. Just when I thought things couldn't get any worse, THEY DID !!

Our ISP failed to re-new our Domain Name (tca2000.co.uk) in time (1 Feb 2008), this was supposed to be automatic. They managed quite easily in 2004 & 2006 but for some strange reason it didn't happen this year.

To cut a long story short, I had to prove who I was, by sending a photocopy of my passport & utility bills before they'd release the Domain Name again.

As you can see, the site came back on-line at 23.30 last night (28th)

I hope that is the last of the problems, as I came close to jacking it all in.

Again I apologise for the inconvenience. Could I ask that anyone who sent me an email after September 07, and before today if it has any connection with changing details on the site, could they re-send them. I'm now in a position to make all the changes necessary.

This is the only page to be updated so far. I'll get round to the rest in due course as I've 5 months worth of backdated work to catch up on.

Will be at Portsmouth on 8th March for the Spring Committee Meeting if anyone has any questions.

Thank you for your patience

Rik (webmaster)

STAN HUDSON

Stan Hudson (Life in the Tons Project) will be offline for a short period as he's changing service providers.

MYSTERY SHIP COMPETITION

The Sept Mystery Ship competition will have to be cancelled, as all my emails with the correct answers disappeared into the ether (see above).

I'll endeavour to find a new photo for you all to guess shortly. The answer to the last one was SEA CENTURION, just in case anyone was wandering.
