![]() HISTORY The Association was founded by Jack Worth & launched on 1st January 1987. It was 'Commissioned' on 28 August 1987 at HMS NELSON, PORTSMOUTH, with Capt Jeremy Stewart RN Rtd., as its' first Chairman & Jack Worth as Hon.Sec. AIMS The Association has been formed to: a) Bring together, in mutual friendship, those who have served in ships of the "TON" Class &, thereafter, to support each other as necessary. b) Enable members to keep in touch with each other by means of a regular Newsletter/magazine, the internet & through regular meetings & social occasions. c) Maintain links with the Royal Navy & other appropriate organisations. d) Maintain an historical & photographic record of each of the 118 ships of the Class, + Wilton, accessible to the membership & other interested organisations. MEMBERSHIP Full membership is available to all Officers & Ratings, serving or retired, including those in the Reserves, who have served in a TON Class Ship for a period of 14 days, or more, at any time since 1953. Associate membership is open to those who have worked on shore staffs in support of 'Ton' Class Ships or squadrons; Or ashore in Reserve Training Centres. Total membership, at present is in excess of 1200 (World Wide) SUBSCRIPTIONS Annual subscription for full & Associate membership is £10.00 / year or £100 for LIFETIME MEMBERSHIP. Annually you will receive SIX copies of the Association Bimonthly newsletter/magazine "TON TALK". Additionally you will be eligible to attend social activities arranged by the Association. You will be able to make use of the services offered to members as these become available. Subscriptions are renewable yearly from the date of joining. TON TALK "TON TALK" aims to keep the membership informed of the development of the Association & Historical information of general interest to members. There is also a stimulating letters feature, updated membership information &, where possible, reviews on new books & videos etc. WEBSITE To provide a pictorial guide to the history of the' TON' CLASS VESSELS and other 'associated' vessels/establishments, for the benefit of Members and non-Members alike. To provide links with other Naval ships/websites around the world. To provide up-to-date information from the TCA via the NEWS page, To keep alive the memory of a Once Proud fleet of ships, and the men who served aboard them. HISTORICAL RECORDS The Association is collating a detailed history of each ship in the Class, both factual & anecdotal. Even if you are uncertain about joining us we would very much welcome material for this record, including photographs, press cuttings, ships programmes (dates, visits & operations) & any other information about "Tons" in which you served. ANNUAL REUNIONS These are held annually, & alternate between Northern & Southern venues. They are usually held during the month of October. In 2004, the 17th Annual Reunion was held in Babbacombe; & in 2005, the Reunion will be held in Llandudno. Full details are published in the Associations magazine. |
